A range of UWA-West Coast swimmers were in fine form at the 2020 Western Australian Open and Age Short Course Championships over the weekend.

UWA student athlete Adam Sudlow continued his rise in form, finishing in 1500m Freestyle in under 15 minutes to break the longstanding WA All-Time Record.

Fellow UWA-West Coast athlete Joshua Edwards-Smith was also a record breaker over the weekend, becoming the fastest ever Australian Age Grouper and 10th fastest Australian of all time in the 200m Backstroke.

State records were also broken by Alex Milligan and Zac Incerti, with Incerti, Milligan, Edwards-Smith and student athlete Ashton Brinkworth combining to give UWA-West Coast the Men’s Open 4x50 Medley, breaking the WA All Comers and All Time Record.

UWA-West Coast also won the Women’s Open 4x50 Freestyle Relay, WA All Comers, All Time, and Residential Record, with swimmers Crystal Edwards, Caitlin Ribbons, Emma Bond, and Brianna Throssell taking part in the win.

Other highlights for UWA-West Coast included Brianna Throssell beating her own WA Residential record in the 100m Butterfly, Crystal Edwards winning the 17-18 100m Freestyle, and Ashton Brinkworth winning the 50m Freestyle.

With the Tokyo Olympics once again on the horizon, the Championships are an important return to competition for many athletes at UWA-West Coast. Well done to all involved!
