UWA Rugby Club tighthead prop Lawrence Petrus has headlined a major Malaysian news channel after scoring his first personal try for the club.

His try helped UWA Rugby Club comfortably secure the sixth-round win against Perth Bayswater Rugby Club, winning 24-7.

As the first Malaysian to feature in the Western Australian Rugby League and making his debut earlier this year, Petrus hopes to pave the way for other Malaysians to follow suit.

“My goal is to play in the Super Rugby. Seeing former UWA players now play in the Super Rugby League has inspired me to follow their footsteps”.

Petrus’ extensive rugby experience proves to be an asset to the team as the UWA Rugby Club President describes Petrus as, “A fantastic addition to our club. He gives the squad a huge boost on the field and still strives to improve and develop under professional guidance”.

“This is not surprising given his rugby credentials”, which include representing the Malaysian National Team since 2018, receiving the 2019 Malaysia Rugby Award and being awarded the Malaysia Ministry of Education Sports Scholarship as a promising rugby talent.

Congratulations Lawrence!
